Universal Reset

Peeling my eyes open after so long of being on ice
...what a strange toll eons can take.
Nothing I knew still remains everything has long turned to dust
Not even my memories can be saved
I'm so far removed from the objective that led me to all this
What is the point to even go on?
Universal reset, this is it baby, it's over...
Time to set right all these wrongs
Shaking the cobwebs loose to jump start my sputtering mind
...coming to terms with reality
Embracing the void and ejecting my fears into the abyss
After all, there's nothing to lose
Slowly recalling that there was a reason for this sacrifice
A dirty job that's got to be done!
Settings controls for the heart of the maw that expands before me
...all I have lost has come down to this
My thoughts imploding as all of the universe comes to a head
A bigger bang, back to zero it goes!

The scene unfolds, she's facing an altar
She's praying to the lizard that she calls father
This town and its people have let him down
The hell he brings, it knows no bounds!
They're dressing for funerals every day
Burying friends at an alarming rate
A quiet terror overcomes the townsfolk
...in wondering what evil they have provoked
As night after night, more blood is spilled
and all of their prayers go unfulfilled
"Oh father who ain't in heaven, with your talons and terrible teeth
they will be taught a lesson, bring your righteousness down on thee!"
The scene unfolds, she's facing an altar
She's praying to the lizard that she calls father
This town and its people have let her down
and their suffering will know no bounds

I won't pretend to know your hardship
It's written proudly across your face
Your life is that of a tortured artist
Minus, of course, that creative spark
You're always too high, too loud, too unforgiving
Always too cocky, too sure, too cruel
Your so-called "vision" is underwhelming
Your body of work, is more of a corpse
It's no mystery as to why you're starving!

This Is Modern Life

As a child she wanted to dig for dinosaurs,
or maybe fly into outerspace, relocate herself to Mars
It was an innocent ask, but it was shot down in flames
She had her teachers to thank, she had her teachers to blame
She grew up to be another cog in the business machine
Often left to wonder, what is the purpose of dreams?
She hurled herself from a rooftop down at the corner of Main
They hosed her blood from the street, but I can still see the stain
Wants and needs, who's to say?
Who can fathom the price we'll pay?
Oh, the tragedy!
Of modern life!
He grew up thinking that he could achieve anything
Marry a beautiful girl, give her a glamorous ring
But as he grew older it became obvious that he was a dud
He wasn't handsome nor smart nor born of notable blood
He held on to the hope that his luck would somehow improve Desperately clinging to a dream of some sort of rendezvous
He wound up hanging himself in an apartment no one called home
It took 8 months and 3 days for someone to find his bones
All I ever wanted was a life of luxury
A care-free existence devoid of drudgery
Mechanized servants, a mechanized wife
but I'm the automaton here, what has happened to my life?
Oh, the tragedy!
